Why don’t carriers express the condition?

Certain health conditions are ‘recessive’, which means that two copies of the disease-causing genetic variant (allele) should be present for the disease to be expressed or produce symptoms. When only one disease-causing variant is present, the individual is termed a carrier as they do not express the condition but have a 50% chance of passing the variant to the offspring.
