The presence of the HLA-DQ2 and HLA-DQ8 subtypes confer the highest risk for CD. HLA-DQ2 (~95%) OR HLA-DQ8 (~5%) are present in almost all people with CD. A CD diagnosis after testing negative for both these subtypes is highly unlikely.
